The Virtual Data Center (VDC) is how your Enterprise Users will consume the cloud resources - it's their resource pool on some infrastructure, which could be a hypervisor cluster or a public cloud account. When a Virtual Data Center is created it is linked to a single Abiquo datacenter, and a single cloud technology. By using multiple datacenters, perhaps with different hardware, and hypervisor technologies, you can use the Virtual Data Center to provide different tiers of service. For example, you may create a "Production" VDC based on high end hardware and vSphere, versus a "Test" VDC based on low end hardware and a free hypervisor such as KVM.
You can also:
- Set Resource Allocation limits at the Virtual Data Centre
- Control which users within an Enterprise can access a Virtual Data Centre
- Provide billing and chargeback at the Virtual Data Centre level
